Kugan's Death is a Malaysian Issue

Concern Youth Movement (CYM) is a young-led non profit organisation formed to defend the civil and human rights of young people in Malaysia, urging the non-governmental advocacy group, Pewaris to show their advocacy skills in upholding the notion of justice and equality in this country.

We humbly take this opportunity to highlight to Pewaris deputy chairman II, Rahimuddin Md Harun that the brutal death of one Kugan Anathan especially in police custody has offended the sensitivities of all true Malaysian regardless of their background, race, religion and colour. Kugan’s death is a Malaysian issue. The whole nation want to know the truth.

We would like Pewaris to understand the differences between protest demonstrations and funeral processions. By convention, it is a normal practice for all Malaysian regardless of their background, race, religion and colour to follow funeral possession and show their last respect.

Therefore, CYM strongly rebut the baseless allegation made by Pewaris via his deputy chairman II, Rahimuddin Md Harun. We also recommend Pewaris especially his deputy chairman II, Rahimuddin Md Harun to educate himself to understand and acknowledge grievances of others at all material time.

Furthermore, the police shall allow all true Malaysians to pay Kugan their last respect. Since it is a failure on the part of the Police, for whatever reason it can be, as the death of one Kugan took place in police custody, thus we urge the police to escort and give proper respect and protection throughout the funeral procession, which they failed to provide when he was alive.

May Kugan Rest in Peace.

Thank you.
